Brazilian musical icons Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil and Rio baile funk artist/pop star Anitta will perform at the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympics.
The two pillars of contemporary Brazilian music and the new sensation are the first performers to be revealed by the Rio 2016 organization, according to Globo and other Brazilian news outlets. The Aug. 5 globally televised ceremony will be a three-hour extravaganza.
The video for Anitta’s Olympic-appropriate 2013 hit single “Show das Poderosas” (“Show of the Powerful”) has over 120 million views on YouTube.The Warner Music Brasil artist’s latest, “Bang,” is a more blatant bid for the kind of international exposure that will be aided by the Rio ceremony performance.
