Drake is on streaming like everyone else, but because he's doing well, it's suddenly unfair. Okay. They're just upset it's coming close to Queen's record.

And I suppose UK radio cannot be included in the charts seeing as all radio stations (one in particular is known for this) basically play 5, maybe 6 songs on repeat all day.

I think Drake has been hugely under-represented in the UK charts tbh (until recently lol).

But to be big in the UK charts you have to be popular with older people (like Adele, Sam Smith, Calvin Harris, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, Jessie J, etc.) and most over 30's probably never heard of Drake before Hotline Bling (a lot still don't know who he is now!). But with 11-30 year-olds he's been one of the most popular artists for years.

I think streaming is a problem here because people go on spotify and hit the Most Popular songs playlist and they will always be listening to One Dance, for example. Not because they want to, just because it's there and most of them can't skip it.

Because the UK charts are based off of what people consume, not what they're forced to listen to.

Eh. This wouldn't be a problem to them, I think, if it was Sam Smith having 16+ weeks at #1.

It makes me sus that so many older figures across the UK industry now have an issue with how metrics are working because it's Drake and that young people have such a pull and control over how the chart is shaped.

i agree. the UK charts used to be so fast paced until streaming and now one dance has been #1 for 14 weeks.

no lol. it's just the UK chart is becoming like the US with massively long running #1s when before even massive smashes had short runs at #1 (poker face for example was #1 for just 2 weeks and it was the biggest song of 2009 in the UK and the most downloaded song of all time there at one point)

I liked the UK singles chart because there were like 3-4 #1s a month

I hope it gets changed, One Dance doesn't feel anywhere near the same as the other long-running smashes in my lifetime.
