Who else could Trump have picked as his running mate, though? It's not like moderate establishment Republicans were exactly lining up to join his ticket after he berated moderates like Jeb and Rubio in the primaries. Some outlets are reporting that Trump was leaning heavily toward picking Christie, who's become a national laughing stock this election cycle, as his running mate until his family and campaign clamored to convince him to go for Pence. At least Pence is a decent enough speaker to stay on message and counterbalance Trump's blatant insanity with his own low-key insanity. Christie has been essentially Trump-lite for his entire career and would have added absolutely nothing to the ticket.
I like Bernie and supported him in the primaries, but those supporters of his who just want to watch the American political system burn are terrible. The ones who would be most immediately impacted by a Trump presidency are minorities and the poor, and it goes directly against Bernie's message of equal treatment for all and expansion of social safety nets for these supporters to jump ship and screw over those disenfranchised groups by voting for Trump.
