At the present time, that is correct. However, meat as it is now is actually a very expensive commodity. We as the consumers just don't directly see this cost because the meat and dairy industry is subsidized by the government. But where do you think that money comes from? The answer is us, the taxpayers. So ultimately we do pay the expensive price of the industry, we just don't see that when going to actually purchase the end result, and thus consider it a cheap product. If this lab grown meat can become a big thing, hopefully the government subsidies that go to the meat/dairy industry will be transferred to this industry. That, coupled with further research and increased efficiency in making this product, will drive down costs immensely, making it just as cheap - if not cheaper - than meat is currently.
