Pokemon Go is "prohibited" by Islam, Egyptian religious body says

An official for the top Islamic authority in Egypt told dpa on Thursday that the mobile phone reality game Pokemon Go is "prohibited" by Islam.
Playing the game is as illicit as drinking alcohol, which is forbidden by Islam, according to Abbas Shouman, the deputy chief of al-Azhar, the world's foremost seat of Sunni Islamic learning.
"It negatively influences the mind and harms the player or others without being aware of that," Shouman said.
The al-Azhar official praised modern technology for helping people save time and effort, but added that some people become "obsessive" with it, which leads them to neglect work and worship.
I'm a muslim but i don't follow this kind of ****. And it said games in general tho, not just Pokémon Go. But i haven't download Pokémon Go yet so i don't care.
Edit: It's not Islam than bans the game, it's Egyptian ulama.
Islam is a religion that has a **** ton of interpretations and sects each with their own rules and whose main leader died like 1500 years ago. This is so extra.

However, there was an Islamic edict in 2001 forbidding Muslims from playing the original Pokémon game.
Al-Azhar has no executive power, thus children continued to play the original Pokémon game.
all those poor lonely Pokemon never to be caught.
Whoever came up with this is the one who's behind this ban, not Islam.
