A few months ago the Long List of the Polaris Music Prize 2016 was released
here.
On It were 3 of the biggest names in Pop music: Drake, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd.
Today they released the Short List and all of them are gone.
Still in the race for the prestigious prize are for example Carly Rae Jepsen with her critically acclaimed album EMOTION and Grimes' Art Angels which got also rave reviews last year.
You probably ask yourself: What's a Polaris Music Prize?
Well.
The Polaris Music Prize is a not-for-profit organization that annually honours and rewards artists who produce Canadian music albums of distinction. A select panel of music critics judge and award the Prize without regard to musical genre or commercial popularity.
An expert jury of broadcasters, bloggers, programmers and other media authorities on Canadian music submit ballots listing the albums they feel are most deserving, based on their perspective as music-filterers. No person with a financial stake in an artist (manager, label personnel, bookers, publishers, et cetera) is eligible to be on the jury.
The Polaris Prize longlist and shortlist are chosen by a jury of 196 Canadian music journalists, including Pitchfork contributors Stuart Berman and Renato Pagnani.
The winner will be announced September 19 at the Polaris Music Prize Gala, and will receive $50,000.
