It's not simply a body of water. Fisheries is an important component in the economies of most Southeast Asian countries. China is sinking down ships of fishermen from these countries just because of their claim.
The area is also one of the most biodiverse locations in the word, and also serves as a food source. Basically, if China continues to destroy the coral reefs in the area, we'll run out of food! Where do fish and all those yummy sea food live? THE CORAL REEFS. No reefs, no fish, no food, hungry Hitori, Devoted,SonyNavy, aR (but he's from Japan!), and many others!
Of course that's just my take because I love pink salmon and tuna. It's actually BIGGER than that. Billions of dollars worth of economic activities are at stake.
