Released only a week apart, Meghan's album, which came out on 5/13, sold 84,000 copies in pure sales during its first week, while Ariana Grande's album, which was released on 5/20, sold 129,000 copies in pure sales during its first week.
This week, Meghan Trainor finally surpassed Ariana Grande's early lead by selling 11,194 albums, while Ariana only sold 4,965 albums.
Meghan is currently in the lead with a total of 187,479 albums sold to Ariana's total of 186,489 albums sold.
Thanks to Discounts and promo, Ariana hasn't bothered promoting the album or the singles since album release week, Meghan's been everywhere since her album was released.
People will pour the "because she has promoted" excuse when all Meghan has done is her job. If an artist releases an effort is because they're willing to promote it unless they're Beyoncé or some other artist who is capable of selling music without doing promo. I am glad Meghan is proving atrl wrong, as usual.
187K after two months, discounts, two hit singles, and her album 1 year ago doing 1M total (and more first week than this has total) isn't really something to brag about.
Um ok? Shouldn't this be expected? I mean a top 3 and a soon to be top 10 pushing the album and all. And Title outsold ME in the US. I don't get why this is news. But flaunt them local sales, i guess!
