My point is this: the provocative (although, IMO, not flawed) wording of the hashtag has provoked more debate than the actual issues it addresses. Had the hashtag been less provocative, people may have been more receptive to the cause.

Like I said, people are just more vocal. It was more subdued but by bringing it up people are more actively vocal on both sides.
It's meant to provoke a reaction and that has caused many discussions already, just cause y'all don't see it on Twitter doesn't mean it isn't happening. People talk about it irl and on news shows, etc
Highly doubt that considering it's been trying to be brought attention to for many years but it still is an issue that has to be fought for, making it "more comfortable" when nothing is comfortable about the issues at hand didn't work.
