It IS clever. The bad guy being bad because he's lusting after a man in that time but can't have him in the conventional way....it's actually refreshing.

Glad they didn't use it. They already destroyed the plot. Like all the real movie adaptions.

It sounds so out of place in the movie and like a desperate attempt to look edgy. I don't think audiences were being homophobic. It just sounds bad.

um the problem was that it was sexual assault (no consent, unconscious "participant"). this is NOT a "gay" thing
