I hate that this happened, regardless, but that guy is terrible for pointing a gun at the police.

He was threatening to kill innocent people. It was necessary.

So...I'm confused. On Twitter, there are people defending him, saying that his hands were empty when he twirled around. They look empty too, but then you see him point something back at the cops, and I get confused again

I wouldn't say psychosis more like lack of experience and training. In critical situations you may pull the trigger several times but only if it's all new to you.

Maybe the police course should be more lenghty.

Well, looks like he did point the gun at them. Appropriate measures were taken. My thoughts are still with his family though, I'm sure this is not easy for them to accept.
