Yet again the tired old argument brought up is "Grammys!!!" when it's CLEAR that they do not equal impact across society!
Many acts in the 00s had big album sales but had extremely little impact, so huge volumes of those sales are therefore not indicative of impact either
In contrast, Katy has had huge cultural impact with the most watched super bowl half time show, iconic looks and imagery such as the California gurls look, HUGE and consistently massive songs from IKAG to CG to Firework to Roar to Dark Horse which have shown success on a variety of formats. Last Friday Night is still receiving over half a million views daily and consistently in the top 3 daily most viewed songs on YoUTube VEVO over 5 years old despite being a FIFTH single! People are still loving it and actively watching it
There's also the COUNTLESS parodies and pop culture references to so many of her songs particularly IKAG and Roar.
