He never got backlash for that. He got backlash for winning those Grammys over Kendrick, then sending texts to Kendrick about how he deserved the Grammys and posting them on social media for validation. The other nominees didn't matter because good kid, m.A.A.d city was better than ALL of them, and that was a widespread opinion, hence the backlash.
