Pandering to straight people is and has always been the most profitable move in music for decades, and it worked for Lady Gaga during her 1st album cycle. That drastically changed for her once she showed LGBT support with her characteristic out-there and a bit impertinent ways, following drop in sales, media backlash, etc. So I don't see how this whole thing is a plan of hers in order to gain more money and power since its one of the main reason why her image and public persona ended up damaged back in the day (and not giving up on it because of that).
