The 26-year-old singer first revealed her 'Mrs C' inking back in November 2007, just over a year after she wed the footballer.

But she is now talking steps to get rid of the tribute – reportedly making enquiries to have it lasered off in Los Angeles.

"It would be a long process requiring lots of return visits. But she says it will be worth it," friends told the Sun.

Meanwhile, conflicting reports have emerged about whether or not the beautiful brunette is seeking a divorce from the Chelsea player.

One paper has reported that Cheryl is hoping to fast-track proceedings by not fighting for any of Ashley's £14 million fortune, and has already begun to remove all traces of him from the couple's Surrey mansion with the help of her mum Joan.

A source, who describes the X Factor star as "very upset and completely heartbroken", told the Sun: "Cheryl has not yet appointed a divorce lawyer but she is going through names and setting up meetings."

"She says she wants the divorce to go through as quickly as possible… She will not be fighting for a huge settlement. She just wants to get out fast so she can press on with her life and move on."

However, it has also been said that far from rushing to the divorce courts, Cheryl is looking at the split as a separation only.

A source said to be close to the singer told the Mail: There is nothing certain just yet. This is a relationship between two people that has already been through a lot. At the moment it is a separation. Nothing more."

The couple – worth an estimated £22 million - have reportedly not even discussed custody of their beloved pet Chihuahuas, Coco and Buster.

Since returning from Los Angeles on Tuesday, Cheryl has not left her home, while her estranged husband is receiving treatment in France for a broken ankle.

Her Girls Aloud bandmates Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh have rushed to their friend's side to offer comfort - both have been seen leaving her house.

And her brother, Andrew Tweedy, has also rallied round, saying: "She is a real sweetheart, she does not deserve this. We are there for her, she knows that. She has a lot of public support. The reaction does not surprise me."

Even Ashley's father, Ron Callender – a factory worker living in Melbourne – has told the press: "Nobody can blame Cheryl for giving Ashley the boot. He's made her look like a mug."

But, he added: "I'll give him all the support I can."

Cheryl is booked to appear on BBC's Friday Night With Jonathan Ross on March 12.

Today's Daily Record also claims that Ashley blames her mother for their relationship problems, aswell as stating that she is looking for a house in Los Angeles as she may be taking Simon Cowell's offer of appearing on the American version of The X Factor.

If you love someone so much you're willing to make you're relationship work. If you're married to someone it's even harder to let them go. You've let you're love on the line for them, proving to be with them forever, and you're saying she should have gave up her marriage at the drop of a hat. I don't think so.

When the man who said he loves you breaks a marriage vow, what's stopping him doing it again? Once a cheater, always a cheater. Not to mention Cheryl put her career first before anything, as did Ashley, and when you marry you prove to be with them forever, right? Obviously one partner didn't mean what he said, so why trust anything else they declared on that day? Though I don't expect you to agree considering you're a Cheryl fan.
