I recently lost 413 GB of my games. I have currently sent the external Hard Drive to a repair shop...so they can at least pull data out and format it.

But only now do I realize the important of backing up stuff..possibly on cloud.

So, how do you guys do that? Do you use Dropbox? I'm considering buying the 1TB sub to Dropbox so that it can auto back up my stuff.

i manually back up my stuff on a back up hard drive every friday night.

I have an external hard drive that I've used since 2010. I transfer files maybe once every few months. It's a laborious task since I have to drag and drop. The included auto transfer software wanted to back up everything and just used too much space.

However, I did use a cloud service before they started charging. They're called SpiderOak and all of your data is encrypted on the device so it can't be read in the cloud.

And size-wise, a bulk of what I have is stuff I wouldn't want to be accidentally leaked if I put it on a cloud. Esp the grown-up materials.

Depends on your internet speed. An online drive is a horrible idea for me because my internet speed is quite slow. If you have fast internet, it's definitely a better option than a physical drive because physical drives can be lost/damaged, but if you have slower internet like me, buy a hard drive (and keep it safe)

I was just looking at drives at Walmart and they're not too expensive anymore. Western Digital is a great brand, that's what I use and it's going strong 6 years later. You can also have your own cloud back up. They're more expensive but they sit in your home and back up as long as you're connected to your local wifi network or on the go.

I know Apple has time machine capsule things which are their version. But they're probably very costly seeing as how they're Apple

As for services, look for ones that encrypt your data. OneDrive is by Microsoft and all that protects your data is your Microsoft password and the files can be read if hacked. So just encrypt your files locally before uploading or find a program that will encrypt and then upload

And yeah I keep my stuff safe but....sometimes, like in my case, a random corruption will just happen.

I would say you cannot go wrong with Western Digital 2 TB/1 TB HDDs.

In Western Digital, I'd recommend the "My Passport" series. Quick, fast, and easy to set up a password on it.

I have 3TB between two external drives that I use mainly to store downloaded TV shows and films since I'm a hoarder when it comes to Blu-ray/WEB-DL 1080p content, but I also have my important files on those too. I used to use my 1TB drive for Time Machine but I deleted that partition to store more TV shows I'm gonna need another 2TB drive real quick.

I have three unlimited Google Drive accounts and one unlimited OneDrive account between my old college and my new college, but I don't really trust that large, illegally downloaded media won't be deleted.

I have one desktop and laptop. Both with 2 partitions, one for Windows and programs and other for Files. Both of them with the same files. My music, some movies, my savegames and ****. I sync em every month. If something goes wrong with the desktop, I have everything in my laptop and vice versa. Documents and photos I put in the cloud. I still use DVDs to backup my games and I have another backup of my music in FLAC also burned in DVDs. I have another backup of all my music in my phone too. There also the original albums that I can always rip.

People say optical discs are from the past. I don't think so. They're more reliable then flash storage. You can't get virus in a burned DVD. You can't mistakenly erase everything.

Oh, and I only have 100GB of stuff.

$5 a month, backup as many things as you want. It's put on a private server and if you lose it you can request a hard drive with copies to be mailed to you. Perfect. The only thing I use for backup.
