The centuries old divide between England/Britain and Germany is not only in pop culture where 2 pop girls are behaving according to the national identity, stereotypes,... of the 2 nationalities.

A Scottish mom ****ed a German because the Scots waited for centuries to get revenge on England and would rather let the Germans and the French in to achieve that goal. His grandparents gave his dad a German upbringing and his mom a Scottish upbringing. The schools can only do so much, he returned every day to a German-Scottish family.
US naturalization policy actually recommends first generation like his grandparents to keep foreign culture/habits and learning English isn't mandatory. Although it's recommended for second generation to learn English to join society and have better chances in job market.
