Applause was one of the biggest western single release of 2013 there, bigger than any PRISM single. It's clearly getting it's sales from somewhere for her to be outselling other major pop girls there, both in singles and albums, and still be top 100 three years later.
Anyway, Applause is a classic, not a song by a fad and she isn't a non factor in Asia like others so not surprised.
