After days of closed-door meetings to discuss possible changes, the North Carolina General Assembly voted Friday to restore workers’ right to use state law to sue over employment discrimination. But the change won’t enhance workplace protections on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, nor does it affect other provisions decried by gay rights advocates, business leaders and other high-profile critics.
On Friday, the legislature also approved giving Gov. Pat McCrory’s office $500,000 to defend the law in court, transferring the money from a disaster relief fund. The move drew jibes from gay rights advocates.
The Legislature just closed for the year. They won't meet up until January unless the Governor calls a special session. It's up to the courts now to kill this bill.
I'm from this state and I want this puppet (that's exactly what Pat McCrory is, a PUPPET) OUT. Many people voted for him under the impression that he was a moderate after Bev Purdue's lackluster term as Governor of our state. He sat by and did NOTHING as the crackpot legislature pushed out law after law, and this man had the AUDACITY to use the term Good Ol' Boy when describing Roy Cooper's politics.
Unfortunately, polls are suggesting a pretty tight race between him and Cooper.
