Hello is not the typical song radio plays over and over like JB songs. That hurted its longevity + the fact so many people bought it first weeks meant few potential buyers remained for the following months.
And it's not bad to be frontloaded. I don't know why it's treated as this crazy insult from some. 25 was absurdly massive first few weeks and is still doing very well.

"Born This Way" was released at the time that it was safest to release songs with that kind of message, a la "Firework," "We R Who We R" and "Raise Your Glass."
The song just fizzled out because it simply wasn't a good enough song to lead off an entire era with. Has it reached 4M sales yet?
