Discussion: Is living forever a bad idea?

Do you think immortality is a bad idea? Wouldn't it be tiring and annoying to live for eternity in any universe? Don't you want to it to end somewhere and eventually sleep forever, in peace? If you could choose, would you want to live forever or not, and why?

Death makes every moment important. Not knowing if there is an afterlife or reincarnation does the same. We value what little time we have.

The worst part in being immortal would be to see everyone you love, every friends and family members die. After their death, you'll make new friends, then they'll die and so on. If you can stand this and be okay with it; why not ?

If I was immortal would I still die when the Sun gobbles us up? That doesn't sound fun and I don't want to be around for that.

Yeah, I couldn't do it. The whole point in life is to rise and do better, but for all of us, there's one point when we get tired of hustling and want to sit down. It's usually at like 60, so dying 15 - 20 years later (in the western world) makes sense. Anything more than that would be exhausting. We'd have to watch ourselves decline slowly for YEARS

Just as stupid as a world full of peace and positivity. If everything was wonderful, there were no problems and not mortality there would be no sense in life whatsoever.

But lol once this planet is engulfed in flames you'll still be here, floating in space or something, not being able to breathe for all eternity and not being able to die to end the pain. You'll end up going mentally insane for the rest of forever, having it never end

back when I left religion and realized how it's all bs, I was affraid of dying. But now I'm not really scared of death anymore. It's just a normal part of universe. Immortal living would be annoying, can you imagine if the people born 500 years ago were still alive? We would never have marriage equality

Well, conflicts are inevitable but who doesn't want peace? It's because we don't get to live forever that we have to try to maintain world peace. Everyone would want to live life peacefully just as they want to die in peace.

living forever would be horrible. you'd see all your loved one's die and if you make new friends you'll just have to watch them die over and over again.

you'd be so far out of time, people wouldn't eventually know anything about our current times. imagine having so many memories and not being able to share them with anyone.

and obviously, as people already mentioned, this planet is going to die eventually (assuming humans don't leave earth)

living a couple of hundred more years would be really nice though
