Never heard that, but that seems really stupid. There is no point in ordering multiplication / division and addition / subtraction seperately

8 - 1 = 7
7 x 0 = 0
0 + 2 = 2
2 ÷ 2 = 1

It looks like a worldwide thing, with different regions having different acronyms but all having the same meaning, hence why everyone is getting 9.

It probably has something to do with complexity of one set vs. the other. Plus, without PEMDAS/BEMDAS/BOMDAS, we would get a slew of different answers. It's just a set rule, like most mathematical problems.

Like I said it's "Punkt vor Strich" in Germany. Which means point ahead of line. Which just means multiplication/division ahead of addition / subtraction.
No reason to have 4 things there. 2 are enough.

B in BEMDAS would stand Brackets.It's essentially the same as Parentheses in PEMDAS

Multiplication + Division
Addition + Subtraction

Answer: 9

Regardless, PEMDAS/BEMDAS/BOMDAS is a rule put into place because there are several different answers you can come up without it.

I think it makes perfect sense, and I will continue to use the rule that was taught to me since grade school.

I think it's based on which one comes first from left to right. In this it would be 8-0, which would equal 8.

But this confusion is common, as I was about to bring up answer 7.

oh yeah you're right. It's 9.

Of course you need a rule, but BEMDAS is just a bit oversized.

Also I'm great in Maths, but I'm a bit confused on to where there would be any situation with doubt about whether to do brackets or exponents first. If you have exponents inside of a bracket you obviously do them first and if you have exponents outside of a bracket you do the bracket first
