Quite honestly, I would describe how Europeans treat each other like how people in South Louisiana treat each other. There they have casual racism that you even say directly to someone's face, and it seems stupid if you get offended. Likewise Europeans think that can be racist to your face and if you get offended it is your own fault. While Europeans love to insult Americans, they have a lot of southern mannerisms which I understand why when a lot of my southern friends go to Europe they, me included, have been told "we don't act like typical Americans."
That also brings up that the Sensitivity is going to differ state from state, like it would country to country in Europe. But I do find it funny that throwing Bananas was a big thing here in the U.S and our country wasn't even involved, but none of the European ATRL's brought it up while criticizing. So not being sensitive is not always a good thing.
See this is the problem I have with Europeans. Yall think just because people accept casual racism you're miles ahead and way more progressive.
please tell me that Black people in America shouldn't be bothered by blackface especially when things like this were acceptable not too long ago
Mind you we have Grandparents who LIVED through this era and saw these images plastered everywhere. Do you really think they would allow their children and their childrens children to find ******** like this acceptable??
I'm not saying Europeans are more progressive, that's not my point. Americans have real issues too and these issues are more severe than probably any other european country because of your history. My point is that at least judging by Twitter you would rather deal with the little problems instead of the big ones.
No, blackface is unacceptable, but most people who do it are unaware/ignorant about this part of history and do it because they want to look like their favorite celeb, not because they want to racially mock them.
"casual" racism exists and present. Take care of it first, it has an actual impact on all generations and it's not as vogue as white privilege. White people are privileged in my country as well, but no one asks them to acknowledge their privilege (how would that help). Instead, our government is devoted to bring equality by a better distribution of resources and by fighting for the place of different cultures in the mainstream.
