Black Twitter attacks Red Cross; Red Cross apologizes
Quote:
An American Red Cross Hospital signboard that carried a "super racist" message about swim safety guidelines for children prompted an apology from the hospital on Tuesday.
The cartoon poster showed children playing in a swimming pool. Nearly all of the white children's activities were labeled as "cool," while the children of color were depicted acting in unsafe ways and were labeled "not cool."
American Red Cross has since confirmed that it has discontinued the production of the poster and has already removed it from the hospital's website and Swim App. “We deeply apologize for any misunderstanding, as it was absolutely not our intent to offend anyone,” the Red Cross said in a statement.
Fresh off the heels of destroying Justin Timberlake, Black Twitter goes after the American Red Cross. Do you
agree that the poster is racist? Or do you not see an issue? Enlighten me with your thoughts on this discussion.
Black Twitter is getting kind of powerful. Not quite sure if that's troubling or not.
Two things I find interesting about this story: 1. How the Red Cross and Justin Timberlake both gave the same apology starting with "Sorry for the misunderstanding" or "I feel misunderstood." I guess that's the new go-to response for "accidental racism." 2. I also find it very interesting that every news outlet puts "racist" in air quotes in their headlines for this story.
What's wrong with power when it's used responsibly like this, Vin?
...Wonderland
I don't know. Corruption usually follows. Here's hoping Black Twitter doesn't become
drunk with power and starts attacking people and organizations for no reason.
