I work at a small business in retail and I've learned a couple things:
- If there is a glass surface anywhere, door, counter, whatever, please don't smear your fingers all over it. As soon as you leave I have to wipe your nasty fingerprints off.
- Don't come like 10 minutes before we close and think you're slick. Most likely I've already shut down the register and put away the cash so I'm really just standing there like a fool hoping you don't actually want to buy anything.
- Calling in and asking if we have something very specific is generally not a good idea. If I'm busy I'll just say we don't have it so I can get off the phone
- If you're looking at jewellery and switch out the ring your looking at for one you already have, I instantly get very paranoid.
- If you genuinely have a problem with something you bought, stay calm and be rational. As soon as you get loud or start calling people names, I assume you are an asshole and I will either get my manager to kick you out or do my absolute best to make sure you leave with nothing.
I've been called names and even had one person threaten to call their local MP (member of parliament) on us because their thing supposedly didn't work and we wouldn't give them a refund
