Do the following for a Vista user:
1) My Computer
2) Click on your iPod
3) In Organize Choose Folder And Search Options
4) Go to the View Tab
5) Check the Show Hidden Files And Folders
6) Go to iPod Control
7) Then folder Music
That's pretty much all I can help you with
To avoid future problems I suggest you invest in an external hard drive .. I got one recently I save everything on it so I don't have to worry about losing anything
You can do this with the other systems too, it's just gonna be a bit different when choosing the hidden options !!
I've read somewhere about a program/software called "iDump" although I don't know if I should try it yet.
Yes. It shows you a list of all the songs, artist, albums, genres etc on your ipod and it just asks you to select the destination you would like to copy them to and your done.

I should get that, I'm sick of having to search too find the songs because they're named as ''WJ38' etc
I could have swore when you copy your music from the ipod from My Computer>>, it has stupid filenames like "SR-HSY" and **** like that? I guess that's changed since i last tried it in 06...lol
Download the software Mediamonkey. It looks like iTUNES, but it'll not delete your previous songs if they're deleted on PC. Try it. You can copy paste too songs from your iPOD to PC.

Yeah it is but if you're just copying it all then it's fine because when you put it in iTunes again it has all the details.

so basically,Mediamonkey is gonna be the alternative to itunes?or will it transfer the songs from the iPod to Mediamonkey and then from there,it will transfer it to the iTunes?
If any of those are iTunes purchases, you can just select "Transfer purchases" in iTunes and it will copy over any purchased songs to your iTunes. I don't know what to do about p2p files or album burns/rips.
I recommend a program called SharePod. You can transfer songs from the iPod to the PC, and vice-versa. It's basically an iTunes, it's really great i guarantee you!
