The big mistakes were the adoption of the euro without careful thought about how a single currency would work without a unified government; the disastrous framing of the euro crisis as a morality play brought on by irresponsible southerners; the establishment of free labor mobility among culturally diverse countries with very different income levels, without careful thought about how that would work. Brexit is mainly a symptom of those problems, and the loss of official credibility that came with them. (That credibility loss is why the euro disaster played a role in Brexit even though Britain itself had the good sense to stay out.)
I am too busy to check whether he is an American or Not. If he is, as an economist his opinion is biased. America in general is not interested in an EU that is too strong. The Brexit thing works for them so long the situation doesn"t get completely out of control.

He's right. Typically European, a plethora of bureaucracy and paperwork paired with an astoundingly ineffective use of resources and absolutely no forward-thinking or foresight.
As someone who has spent their life between North America and Europe, I can sincerely say that all of Europe's problems are self-inflicted and they have exactly what they deserve coming for them. Full stop.
The terrible referendum had no side that was moral. Leave politicians have no plan and the EU has had such a negative impact on Eurozone nations (Greece and the Baltic states) that is not this sugary sweet institutions that some say it is. I still think the ref should never have taken place.

Yep. Might as well disband the Euro unless Europe comes up with a better solution than the EU. Maybe becoming one country with many diverse groups of people is the way to go there.
