There are lots of people with a better voice than Adele, even people who aren't necessarily black. It happens for some people and it doesn't for others I don't think it is worth speculating on at the expense of successful artists like Adele. I'm not saying that white people do not have an advantage, which isn't really a surprise considering that they are selling to predominantly white countries.

So since the haters can't say Adele is a flop or fading because 25 is still top 10 world wide and in the US after 7 months..they are not BEATING a dead horse that has long decomposed onto bones by saying she wouldn't be successful if she was black. 2 of the 5 best selling female artist in history are black.

Hard to say. She might have done just well as a lighter-skinned black woman, but Asian or Middle Eastern? I highly doubt it.

She would've been a MAJOR flop and if she was light skinned and lucky 5X platinum max in the US (with less praise).

Yeah the Youtube comments on all her videos when 21 was blowing up went something like "Omg I thought she was black!"

She also wouldn't be as successful if she was skinny or looked younger. It's the fact that she looks like an average looking older frumpy dressed woman that people feel like they can relate to her unlike other pop singers. Yes, she has a nice tone but her image is one of the main reasons for her success

unlike many other big stars, Adele got famous pretty late after she had started to sell alot. and much of her sales-success comes from organically growing word of mouth. she was moderately successful and acclaimed with 19 which was a slow-burner. she was pretty big from the start (esp in UK and netherlands) with 21 but it just kept growing. and all the time, lots of talk about her and her music was that it had much black influence. unlike someone like Taylor.

but i dunno, white artists doing typical black music has always been successful, all the way back to Jazz musicians, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eminem and Amy Winehouse so yeah. but it's dumb to make it look like it's their fault or smt when they (most of them) actually promotes and express their admiration for black music, it's the GP's fault it doesn't get on the black artists more, and it's sad in some cases

Honestly I don't know, there are a lot of factors in the success of an artist, but for sure Jazmine Sullivan is EXTREMELY good, she deserves more recognition.
