So? That doesn't mean anything. During the time Aretha debuted, R&B was a big genre and mainly covered by black artists. Not to say it isn't these days (unless you look for traditional R&B artists) but Adele's kind of music gets classified as R&B or Soul when it sounds nothing like any of those genres. Plus actual R&B artists get overlooked these days.
They don't receive much or if at all receive BET nominations but people like Adele and Sam Smith can receive loads.
