The UK could lose it's access to tax and trade benefits among many other things that help keep it's economy afloat. Lots of companies will leave, taking jobs with them. The pound is dropping in worth (more than 10% rn, the largest daily drop ever and lowest it's ever been since the 80s). The UK could collapse itself considering that the vote was so close and places like Scotland had a overwhelming majority of people who wanted to stay and Wales being a near polar opposite.
Many older UK citizens felt that the EU neglected to grant the country adequate options in immigration reform and border control and that was the driving force behind a large majority of the votes who felt they see know true benefits from the UK's very diverse population and current free market economy.

The British pound has already crashed, it's shaping up to be terrible for the British economy. Notable campaigners have already u-turned on their promises. The campaign was built on a lot of patriotism and, frankly, xenophobia that seemed to capture the interest of, most importantly, the 65+ age bracket. Young people wanted to remain and are now shafted by the older generation's choices.
