I can't with people saying "oh my god, what about the overdoses!"
People overdose, a lot of young people tragically by accident, primarily because of the lack of education about drugs, and the fact criminals do not manufacture or sell these drugs in very moral ways. Take LSD, for example. It is a very safe drug in terms of overdosing. You simply cannot overdose on it.
But there is a drug that is being sold as LSD, which isn't LSD at all, and instead replicates it effects. It has tragically killed people in a very low dose. These (dangerous) replica drugs wouldn't be around if the real (safer) drugs were not banned.
Tell me guys, if you have a son or daughter who is interested in LSD at 17 and doesn't tell you. Would you rather then going to some dodgy dealer that could be selling them anything on the blotter paper, something that could potentially kill them, or would you rather them go somewhere that is completely authentic and they will receive information and advice before being sold it. Please, just answer me that question. The same can be applied to cocaine or heroin.
Yeah, turn the great United States into a deeper shithole
The War on Drugs (that has failed miserably) has cost over a Trillion$. and continues to grow. You can literally buy any drug on certain areas of the internet right now. Do you think its worked?
America has always been like this so keep watching from the sidelines, because you'll never be as great as us.
Plus we actually have black people over here.
Huh? What... justifying the greatness of your state by the proportion of ethnicities there? What is having 'black people' in your country supposed to even mean?? We do as well, as do many other countries? Are you just uneducated or ignorant? Mess..
But if you do want to bring race into it, yes, you do have 'black people' there. But how are you treating them? Last time I checked, they are still being treated unfairly and shot randomly by police officers with little consequence comparatively to a white citizen. So maybe get your facts in check, chile.

You're forgetting the crucial fact that accessibility is correlated with abuse and misuse. I hate the whole "if there is a will, there is a way" argument because no, if someone is not exposed to drugs (which a ban on drugs effectively does to shield the youth away from vices etc) then they will most likely retain a cleaner lifestyle. Use your head for a second, if drugs were legal - just imagine the 12 year olds being exposed from such a young age? What do you think that has on their acceptance/psyche on drugs? Don't try and tell us that the ratio to drug abusers would be the same if drugs were legal, that's absolute bs.
Same as the whole gun fiasco. I bet theres little children watching these massacres, and expecting it as a 'normal' part of American lifestyle, which definitely isn't the case in other countries with gun bans.
I can't at you even ENTERTAINING the idea of LSD being 'sold legally'. What kind of messy proposition is this? An 'instruction manual' to use LSD safe and effectively? Wow that's just thick. As a med student that's hilarious to even consider.
Legalizing drugs would immediately and swiftly bring organized crime to a halt. The revenue gained from taxing the **** out of it and plowing that back into education and addiction programs...
There are arguments for it tbh. War On Drugs is a colossal failure and a new approach is needed IMO. Trials in The Netherlands have shown there was no spike in interest in drugs just because they were able to be sold legally.
Lol so we should just legalize murder and rape because only those capable of murder/rape will do it, and the taxpayers would have to pay less for what they would do anyway? ATRL is so THICK sometimes I'm actually really worried about the IQ about some in this forum
yeah because doing drugs is the same as raping/killing someone worry about yourself first, sis

What? Just because drugs are decriminalized doesn't mean there aren't going to be restrictions. You have to act responsible, just like when you're drinking alcohol.
I don't think they should (I also think they should ban alcohol and tobacco but that is for a different discussion), but at the end of the day stupid people are going to do stupid things and as long as it doesn't affect me I don't really care what they do or don't legalize.

Maybe that could have been spent elsewhere.
I don't think all drugs should be 100% legal, but MDMA (particularly because it would be higher quality and significantly less dangerous), weed, cocaine, and shrooms should definitely be.
no, we don't want to encourage people to be addicted to drugs. i understand that the "war on drugs" is mostly useless, but that doesn't mean we should just go in the complete opposite direction.
i'm fine with pot, but do you realize what drugs like heroin do to people? it ruins their life. it kills them. and it doesn't take a lot of tries to get addicted to it. i don't want to make it easier to try it even once. a lot of people are reckless and will try it if it's easier to access, and there's the possibility that that one time can ruin their whole life.
this is where the "do what you want as long as it doesn't affect me" attitude goes to completely irrational lengths. and the idea that it's ok for people to destroy their own lives just because they "want to" is stupid. you do realize that that person's death doesn't just affect them, right? it affects everyone that cares about them, and leads to increased healthcare costs.

How does decriminalizing drugs equate going the opposite direction? You just don't throw a bill without restrictions or guidelines. We still have a government and they have people to answer to. You think they're going to be allowing people to consume and sell and trade hard drugs out in the streets like that?
There are going to be centers and programs designed to fight drug addiction. The point of this is to bring a safe shelter to these drug addicts instead of them going to the streets surrounded by drug dealers and violence.

So say your mother/son/sister/brother got addicted to heroin. Would you rather him or her be going to dodgy dealers, where he could be potentially arrested, and the dealers who are potentially selling him things that are mixed with the heroin that are really quite dangerous, and needles that are dirty... or would you rather him or her have to go to the Doctors. I'm not talking about selling heroin at friggin' supermarkets - but it should be available if someone makes it clear they have an urge to do heroin.
There is zero evidence to show that making drugs illegal stop the rate of abuse, and especially addiction.
The argue to support legalisation and especially decriminlisation (that is becoming more and more supported by leading scientists and the medical profession) is because all the evidence points towards it helping people and bringing down drug abuse. We too, don't want a society full of drug users who can't control themselves.
For example: I use the study pill Modafinil recreationally. It helped me a lot with my exams, and will continue to do so in the future. It is not addictive, and Oxford and Harvard university recently did a study confirming its safety. I believe I am doing no harm to anyone or society.
Recently, the government made it illegal for people to sell in this country, and for people to import it into the country. The drug itself is still legal - I'm allowed to buy it. But if someone sells it to me, they're breaking the law. The only way I can buy it now is by looking for it underground, where they could be selling me anything disguised as it. Don't tell me that is safer than what I was doing before: buying it from reputable, proper manufacturers of the drug. Who now cannot sell it without breaking the law.
