Arnold Schwarzenegger's vegan video; "Less meat, less heat."
Quote:
Chinese officials recently announced dietary guidelines aimed at cutting its citizens’ meat consumption by 50 percent. The guidelines have found support among the climate community and international celebrities including former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and director James Cameron.
If the guidelines are followed, carbon dioxide emissions from animal agriculture could be reduced by 1bn tons by 2030.
“China’s move to cut meat consumption in half would not only have a huge impact on public health, it is also a massive leadership step towards drastically reducing carbon emissions and reaching the goals set out in the Paris agreement,” James Cameron told the Telegraph.
Arnold said; "The more I [became concerned] with my physical [health], the more doctors started stressing; "Arnold - you've got to get off meat." So I'm slowly getting off meat and I tell you, I feel fantastic."
James reminded viewers; "The number one thing that you can do is to just stop eating, or begin to cut down, on your consumption of meat and dairy. Meat and dairy are not good for your body, and they're not good for the environment."
This is fantastic! Good on James and Arnold - great to see some heavyweights getting behind climate protection, especially with a meat-related message.
It's true, meat production results in alarming methane emissions. Even cutting it down a bit in everyone's diets will make a large difference in the long run.
