Whats he says is effectively true. I personally think Turkey is not currently fit for EU membership because it is still too poor and unequal and it is run by an autocratic government clamping down on freedom of speech. Also, given that it borders the mess that is Syria and Iraq, I don't think Turkey accession would be good for the security of the EU. Not to mention the Kurdish conflict. But if it can overcome these issues, I will welcome Turkey's accession but the majority won't because it is a large muslim country. Turkey will soon have a larger population than Germany (most populous country in Europe) and that would be a big change.

Yeah I saw this and its true, BUT many voting for Brexit today are motivated, at lest partly, because they think millions of Turks will be arriving in the UK to 'steal jobs', claim benefits and use exhausted public services. I think that has more to do with the fact that its a large and poor country, not a muslim country, but for some people it is because its a muslim country.

Why is he making **** up? He knows full well that Turkey needs to complete 35 chapters before ascension and they have completed 1 in the last 30 years and it won't complete many more until he stops dragging Turkey ever further to the right and until they find a solution to the issues regarding Cyprus.

Europe doesnt want Turkey now mostly because of the ongoing conflict both, on their borders which they are obviously failing to control and within their own country with Kurds, which started escalating when Erdogans government ordered to bomb Kurdish fighters in Syria who were fighting ISIS. Erdogans government also continues to severely violate basic human rights of Turkish Kurds and other minorities (this is a long lasting problem). And what about all those journalists imprisoned for reporting news?

Erdogan is the real problem of Turkey right now - he is trying and succeeding in establishing an authoritarian regime - he is trying to hold absolute power over the country by restricting the legislative power of parliament and gets rid of opponents (see what happened to Davutoglu just few weeks ago).

Absolutely not. It'd be madness to welcome Turkey into the Schengen area when it borders Syria. Plus, Turkey was en route to meet EU criteria before Erdogan, but now that he is basically trying to establish a dictatorship he can stay dreaming to enter the EU cause it's just not happening.
