I read this very interesting article about racism against asian people and I thought it was nice to share it with you guys.
When people talk about racism, most of them talk about people of color or latinos, they rarely talk about asians and, personally, I find this even worse.
They are here, they exist and, like other minorities, they face racism too.
I'm truly happy that Hollywood is, finally, embracing them cause they are just as good as anybody else.
People should really accept diversity and try to learn from each culture they get in touch to.
Yes. I completly agree. Asian people are ALWAYS forgotten about in race talks. When was the last time an Asian person won a VMA or Oscar???? When was the last time an Asian person was NOMINATED for a VMA?
Asian people should speak about their struggles more. The only reason why black issues are so prominent is because black people are so vocal. I never understand why other minorities are so pressed about it
It would be great to speak about this more. Unfortunately this is ATRL where people read one thread and suddenly assume that everyone in Asia partakes in the dog festival.....
Right! It's always black vs white. And for some reason most people associate 'Asian' with Japanese/Chinese/Korean people, when there are so many other countries/nationalities.
Oh well, I don't let racism affect me, it's the perpetrator's problem.
It's weird that Asians usually like not exist in race discussion. Some people simply dismiss them because of how successful they appear in Western society (as a contrast to blacks and latinos who are sometime painted in a more negative light). Yet they suffer similar discrimination or discrimination in other areas. And I recall the whole casting asian roles as white people and that's strange to me.

They do speak out and they are vocal. Nobody in this thread is pressed that black people speak out on issues that affect their community. You may want to read up about how Yellow Peril worked with Malcolm X, the Black Panthers, etc. it's all very interesting

This actually supposedly happened. In NYC Chinatown I heard people were protesting the festival as if Asian Americans have anything to do about it. Messy asf

It's probably the iconic Coco Lee
Quote:
As a Chinese American, Lee is the first and only person of Chinese ethnicity to perform at the Oscars; she performed the Best Original Song nominated, "A Love Before Time" from the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Asian acts often win prizes around the world, BIG BANG won "Best Artist From The World" @ the Italian MTV Awards a couple of days ago for example, yet people are very pressed about the success of asian artists.
I think it's because of the quality of their productions, which is infinitely better when compared to basically any western artist.
They invest a lot of money into their songs, music videos, promo, ecc, and it shows.
As someone who listens to asian music since over a decade, I find really really hard to appreciate -most of- western productions, cause I find their quality pretty low.
I agree that racism against Asian people should be addressed more. I think that a lot of online social justice advocy is so centered on the Western hemisphere where most of the people of color will be black or Latino people.

In most of the cases, if someone is successful is because he/she worked hard to be so, wherever he/she is from.
To me it's so stupid to don't consider someone in a discussion like this just because he/she actually has a nice bank account, racism is not about the money.
Can we also talk about the fact the highest debut of albums in a territory was Utada Hikaru with her album Distance which sold 3m in Japan. Completely ignored all the time.

Well, that's because Japan has a superior taste
But yeah, some people should really do some research. Also, artists like Utada and Namie would win over literally every single western artist if compared to them quality wise.
Asians are always paid dust. It's almost ironic because white people are usually racist towards black people, yet when I was in school some of the black kids would join the white ones in picking on this Korean girl

When I was in class, some white people and this one south Asian guy would drag east Asians and it was so bad.
