I can understand why people were upset after her initial statement, it did come across as dismissive of BLM, even though it was not what she meant. She was trying to make a dig at American media, not BLM. But she has tried so many times to explain herself, and I think her doing Afropunk was a symbolic streched hand, yet people are still on the hate ride and what was initially a case of misinterpretation has turned into a hate campaign against M.I.A.. And as a result, one of the artists that spent her whole career fighting discrimination of minorities is labeled as a racist now. Thats just sad, this twisted mob mentality.
M.I.A is Sri-Lankan. They have experienced a lot of racism in western countries, especially in the UK where racism towards Asians is just as bad as racism towards black people here. This whole thing is a mess but I'll always stand for talent.
It's like Azealia wants the world to become even more racist with her Us & Them attitude. I get that she's passionate about racial equality but I have little sympathy for someone who is also spouting hate and homophobia on the regular.
