A few months ago I was watching the Celebration DVD with a friend who admittedly had never heard the American Life album. So we saw videos for Hollywood and Love Profusion. First she said Love Profusion was "boring" and that rattled me

And let me say she's not a close-minded person or the kind of person who wants to hear Like A Prayer all the time or whatever...
And then, very thoughtfully, she said - "I think she was going through a period where... she had to get certain things out of her system, certain thoughts or feelings, and she had to go through that in her art, and it's good for her personally... but the music just wasn't hitting the mark."
Me:
The soliloquy I wanted to give about X-Static Process, Nobody Knows Me, the perfectly claustrophobic atmosphere of the album, how glorious Love Profusion is when you really get into its groove, ugh. But I refrained because I'm trying not to be *that* friend
