It is though.

Don't get me wrong Confessions as an album was better executed, the non-stop club mixing of the album, the looks, the performances and the tour. However there's a lot of good, but not excellent songs. Hard Candy on the other hand is bop after bop after bop.

I reckon Confessions is probably better than Rebel Heart, but that's kinda hard to say given the Rebel Heart era has only just wrapped. Maybe she'll go back to being kinda disconnected from her fans, and we'll always look back on Rebel Heart as the first time in years she REALLY let her softer, personal side show. It was pretty phenomenal to see this side of her - like to think I saw her live crying about Rocco, that's pretty heartfelt stuff.

Rebel Heart is my favorite Madonna album released in my lifetime, tied with American Life. I listen to it the most, I feel closer to it than any other. Many of the songs just speak to me on a personal, profound level. That might be hard for some of you to understand, but let that be a testament to Madonna's artistry; that more than just one or two acclaimed albums can have a deep impact on her fans. But whatever, I get how it's not "better" than Confessions or ROL. As for Hard Candy, it's sort of the same thing with me. I don't feel quite the same way about it as I do RH, but it's a much, much easier album for me to get into as a whole than ROL or Confessions. Especially the album cuts, which I find immediately more usable on a regular basis than many of the ROL or Confessions cuts. That's not to say I don't love those as much. They just occupy a different, perhaps more special and exclusive space in my standom.

I've been rambling and I doubt many people besides my fellow Hard Grammy stans will even bother engaging with this but I just wanted to speak for myself.

So. Yeah. May Madonna be with you.

A few months ago I was watching the Celebration DVD with a friend who admittedly had never heard the American Life album. So we saw videos for Hollywood and Love Profusion. First she said Love Profusion was "boring" and that rattled me And let me say she's not a close-minded person or the kind of person who wants to hear Like A Prayer all the time or whatever...

And then, very thoughtfully, she said - "I think she was going through a period where... she had to get certain things out of her system, certain thoughts or feelings, and she had to go through that in her art, and it's good for her personally... but the music just wasn't hitting the mark."

The soliloquy I wanted to give about X-Static Process, Nobody Knows Me, the perfectly claustrophobic atmosphere of the album, how glorious Love Profusion is when you really get into its groove, ugh. But I refrained because I'm trying not to be *that* friend
