I wonder if being good looking would be helpful or a hindrance. Would you be hassled more, or be more powerful?

My friend was recently released and from his stories, i learned:

1) Don't snitch. If you get hit or threatened in you first week, it could be a test. If you're known as a snitch, you're more likely to get hurt or blamed for stuff.

2) Respect the officers on good and bad days. Even if it's unfair, making a fuss can turn out worse.

3) You won't be treated any differently than any other prisoner. Even if you did a crime that was petty, they will treat a rapist the same as you. So don't expect special treatment and DON'T act like you're better than others.

4) Don't borrow, don't lend. Mind your business. Do your time. Don't make friends with the "bad" guys. Don't mention how much money you have, or money at all.

5) Consenting sex is more common than rape (in the UK, but it might be covered up). Don't let ANYONE know your sexuality, though. Just don't even talk about sex. In the UK you can get condoms quite easily in prison, America and other places are probably more homophobic and conservative. Rely on yourself for sexual release if you can. It's not worth getting involved with anyone else.

6) Don't be shy and quiet, but don't be loud and aggressive. Try become someone people can trust, than just "that guy" or "THAT guy". Bad guys in prison prey on weakness and threats. I know that sounds weird, but you have to find a middle-ground.
