If someone "disagrees" with being gay, are they homophobic?
Personally, i find the whole concept of disagreeing with gay people's being to be homophobic, but some argue that as long as someone isn't actively oppressing gays, leaves them alone and is polite to them it isn't homophobia.
What does ATRL think? Could you be friends with someone who claims to disagree with homosexuality? How would you react if someone you're already close to believed this? Could you tolerate someone like this on a regular basis, or would you chose to not associate with them?

To me, there's no such thing as disagreeing with homosexuality.
You can't disagree with the fact I have brown eyes
You can't disagree with the fact that I'm 6 feet tall
You can't disagree with the fact that I'm white and pale
So, how can you disagree with my sexuality? It's not a choice, it's a trait
If someone says something of that sort ("I disagree or disapprove of homosexuality, but like I don't hate you or anything"), not only will I think they're homophobic, but I'll also think they're rather dumb, on top of that.

They're homophobic, but it's not as bad. The lesser of two evils teas.

It is always homophobic to disagree with homosexuality. I don't really care if someone is homophobic as long as they are polite and don't harass people because of their sexuality.

You can't agree with someone being who they are? How they are born? Yes, it's homophobic and quite frankly idiotic.

.
Just tell these same people you "disagree" with their blackness, whiteness, womanhood, etc, and see how that goes

I agree with the first part of your posts, and I feel as though most will too so that's why I added the part about whether or not you'd be willing to befriend one of these people. Would you feel comfortable with someone who "disagrees" as your friend?

What is "disagreeing with homosexuality"? There's nothing to disagree or agree with. Maybe approve is the right word?
If you have a problem with homosexuals, you're a homophobe. A phobia refers to any type of irrational discomfort with anything and these people are uncomfortable with homosexuality. Leaving them alone and being polite doesn't contradict that there's a phobia. What's next? A misogynist being polite to women and leaving them alone contradicts their feelings about women?
In any case, I don't care what they think as long as they don't affect my life. I could get along with them, but we'd never be friends because he/she could never be comfortable with me.

Yes. Because like TT said, you can't "disagree" with homosexuality. It's not an argument between differing opinions.
Some men say that they're not homophobic but they then say "I wouldn't want to be in a locker room with a gay guy. It's not fair that he can get his rocks off to me but I can't go into the ladies locker room"

How is he respectful? What is something that he does/doesn't do that shows how he respects LGBT people? What do you think is something that someone who claims to be respectful shouldn't do.

I don't see how either, but I've heard some people say that it doesn't bother them and wondered if ATRL had any people like that.

What "lifestyle"? The vast majority of these kids are virgins.
