It hasn't been for ages. I think it was OU during early XY but then dropped to UU and stayed there. Espeon dropped later (i think) and now Sylveon joined them and Umbreon

I don't even get the tier system - I mean, it's only based on usage, not potential, correct? All I know is that Smogon occasionally gets super pissy over some Pokémon or another and bans it from OU because they can't deal tbh

Yes but there are viability rankings too (and Sylveon as the only Eeveelution barely made it to D rank ) so Pokemon which are considered better will generally get used more.

Jolteon is outcalssed by M-Manectric. The eeveelutions need better, more expansive movepools, tbh.

Damn, Butterfree doesn't even get ****ing Air Slash. They ain't ****.

All but Espeon and Sylveon ...and maybe Vaporeon need better abilities too.

I think Vaporeon especially, it seems to share similar traits to Greninja in that case.

Vaporeon - Poison Heal / Protean
Espeon - Protean / Trace
Jolteon - Motor Drive / Lightning Rod
Umbreon - Moxie / Justified
Leafeon - Sap Sipper / Harvest
Glaceon - Refrigerate / Multiscale
Flareon - Moxie / Fur Coat
Sylveon - Protean (Pixilate is pretty perfect for it too)
