Coinciding with the physical release of Radiohead's new album, listening events were planned in record stores across the world. At a record store in Istanbul, terrorists attacked the fans for listening and drinking alcohol during Ramadan.
Radiohead have responded to the attack on an A Moon Shaped Pool listening event in Turkey. According to Turkish news media, a group of men attacked customers at an Istanbul record shop during the event because they were angry that the event featured the drinking of alcohol during Ramadan.
The men attacked and beat the store’s owners as well as some attendees, and also vandalized the store. Upwards of 20 men used pipes and bottles as weapons, and threatened to burn down the store with everyone inside.
The band's response:
Quote:
Our hearts go out to those attacked tonight at Velvet IndieGround in Istanbul. We hope that someday we will be able to look back on such acts of violent intolerance as things of the ancient past. For now, we can only offer our fans in Istanbul our love and support.
Seems like the worst they did was bloody up some victims; they were breaking glass bottles over people's heads, attacking with metal pipes, and threatened to burn down the store with everyone inside. This happened quite a few hours ago, and nobody died.
