I was 8 when The Incredibles first came out and I'll be 23 when The Incredibles 2 comes out

Why does Pixar take such huge breaks in between sequels?

technology developing, experimentation, CGI isn't easy to make…

it can literally take WEEKS to do a few minutes of animation if it takes 9 months to make an 11 minute segment 2D animation for Adventure Time, imagine how long that takes with CGI

Real question is... are they seriously wasting money and time on making Cars 3

Doesn't the entire Cars franchise make a lot of revenue for Disney/Pixar? Yeah they aren't the best out of Pixar but that's were the money is at.

Anyways, they can't just make sequels, they still want to make originals, so the originals come out in between the sequels. Also, all of their movies take years to make.

Animation isn't what alot of people think it is. you can't do half a movie in less than 2 months. it can take 2-5 years just to get most of the film down. it's alot of work and Pixar is known for their stunning visuals so i see why they always take years. they gotta make sure everything is quality and top notch

It took them two years to do an octopus scene in Dory alone, so it's not unheard of

Maybe they take long breaks so when the sequel comes out they will bring in both little kids and the teens/young adults who come in out of nostalgia of the original film.

How many people 16 or above are going to see Finding Dory? A lot...

Pixar is also know for having pretty consistently amazing movies so in addition to taking extra time on animation they want to take extra time making sure the story is up to par and the sequel is at least as good as the original.

The animation takes a while. Also, it's not like they can't afford to not take breaks, their movies pull in hella revenue.

Pretty much what was said here. Quality animation just takes very long. Everything is built from scratch. All the backgrounds and details you see is part of years of hard work.

Disney had a division that worked on sequels to Pixar movies like Finding Nemo and Toy Story back in the mid-2000s but all of the projects were shut down when Disney brought Pixar.

Also, Pixar has a small group of directors that make a lot of the great movies and they get sucked into other projects. Brad Bird (Incredibles) had other films he needed to work on, Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) was too busy working on the Toy Story 3 script to even think about Finding Dory, John Lasseter (Toy Story, Cars) is really busy working with the Disney Animation division these days.

And of course, animation and getting everything right takes time. Pixar is a company that's willing to delay their movies if they're not proud of the initial reels they made.

I love The Incredibles, it better start at where it ended.

Their more into creating original content instead of franchises.

Like with music, quality stuff takes some time.
