Why are gay guys so homophobic?
I mean, after the Westboro Baptist Church I find that other gay men, especially on here appear to be more homophobic than most people, constantly putting each other down, bitching about one another and having an unwarranted dislike for other gay men. Why do you guys think this is? I understand it might come from a bit of self loathing, but I don't understand why we all have to be so vicious to one another when we already discriminated against.
Discuss....

I think "homophobic" and "self-hating" is thrown around WAY too easily in the gay community.
If I enjoy being masculine that does not make me a self-hating gay. Being gay does NOT mean I want to BE or ACT a woman. All it means is i'm attracted to other men. Cannot ****ing stand when people attack masculine guys by saying they're self-hating for not being feminine or not being interested in feminine guys.
This is the kind of stuff makes it so hard for the gay community to unite. Everyone criticizes everything instead of letting people just enjoy what they want. I think I literally see people call someone else "self-hating" on this site at least once a day for no legitimate reason.

That's not really what im talking about. I'm just talking about how gay men of all different personalities and beliefs' natural instincts are to dislike and talk **** on other gay men. You see it on this site all the time. If ever there is a thread about Tyler Oakly, Troye Sivan, hell even Colton Hayes has copped a lot of **** since coming out.

Okay this may not makes any sense for some people, but in my mind it does.
This is specifically about gay guys, not lesbians.
To me being a man or a woman has nothing to do with age, but it has to do with: maturity, responsibility, knowledge, "been there, done that", experience, someone who is at least 40+ because they know how the world works blah blah blah. Until I know a person, I would never consider them a man or woman. Just a male or a female. I just can't with "19 year old man" like really?
So, I think the self hating gays are just males, and haven't grown into actual men yet. The gay men I know are really smart, career oriented, settled down, have experience, home owners, good education, communication skills that have been going on for years.. The males that I know are still party goers, on Grindr 24/6, and rude af.
When I got together with my partner, he was friends with people that I wouldn't be friends with. In friends with non-gossip, nice, charming people. His friends were mean (not to me) to others, putting them down, Self entitled. I had to sit my partner down and explain how his friends really are. And because of me he's no long we friends with them. But friends with actual men.
This is just my analogy.

I wouldnt say jealousy. Its easier for some gays to come to terms with their sexuality compared to others who may not be as comfortable coming out or may not have as much support as other gay people.

What are you talking about? Anyways, you sound controlling. When you guys break up, he's probably gonna miss a lot of those relationships you damaged.

We're a minority that faces certain oppressions. This triggers some people to, mostly unconsciously, try to combat their minority status by putting others below them (eg. Fem shaming, twink shaming, racial bias etc).

I don't think they're homophobic, I think they're just self conscious, and they don't want to appear as gay to others.

I wouldn't call it homophobia. I'd call it being bitchy.
I blame Ru Paul and the drag race. Before that show aired, gays were a lot less catty. Sure they were still catty but it wasn't as in your face as it is today. I mean the show is a bunch of gay men "throwing shade" like 75 year old oak trees and a lot of the young adults-teens-early 20's people have grown up watching it or being influenced by seeing their age peers mimic it.
It's also tradition. Look at Will and Grace. The cast was always tearing each other down with insults.
I could go on. But this is already ranty
