They will never be able to repeal the second amendament or get rid of guns altogether. They best they could do is just make it harder to get a gun. Have compulsory mental/security background checks.
Obtaining a gun should be a long process taking a look into mental health, general personal conduct, and much more. It should be regulated like the DMV. You should be subjected to an intense, lengthy process that could take several months. Psychologists and trusted law officials should authorize the distributions of guns. We need more accountability. This way if something does go wrong we can look back and say 'Dr. Smith authorized this when it was known the gunman had a history of mental illness.' Yes, it should be complicated. If it means saving at least one person, it should be extremely complicated and thorough.
Ban military automatic weapons, they should be constricted to official armed forces, not available for the average civilian to legally buy. It makes no sense to try to ban all types of guns because it will literally never happen, guns make up a big part of American history, hunting rifles/handguns/etc are owned and used by a huge percentage of Americans.. its an overwhelming majority to fight against.
I think things like handguns and hunting rifles should not be taken away. But machine type guns have no reason to be available to the public IMO, I don't see what other purpose they serve. Smaller handguns and hunting rifles have purposes that people should be able to continue using.
Obviously, the main motivating factor behind these murders is the person choosing to do it. They would find some way or weapon to do it if they really wanted to. Taking away mass shooting guns would make it less easy for mass killings to occur like the one we just saw. We also need to put a lot more worth and effort into mental healthcare to try and get to the root of these issues in people.
