News: Orlando Shooter Scouted Disney World as a Target

Authorities said Mr. Mateen made a 911 call declaring his allegiance to the terrorist group Islamic State before he was shot and killed, around 5 a.m. after an hourslong standoff with police. He killed 49 people and injured 53 others in the attack.

Based on the investigation so far, Disney World appears to be one of the places Mr. Mateen went to while he was looking for targets, the officials said. His scouting of Disney World didn’t take place in the hours immediately before he opened fire Sunday morning, they said. It wasn’t clear which Disney World property Mr. Mateen scouted.

For those that don't know, this act could have been carried out at Disney World. Though there are metal detectors at Walt Disney World, the company does not make everyone walkthrough them. Most guest to Disney World will walk into the park without going through them at all.

Still this shows a clear sign that this was a hate crime on top of a terrorism attack. He could have selected this theme park which would have been just as tragic but his hatred against the LGBT community won out.

I wish he did to be honest. He only would've been able to take out 1-2 people. Disney World has snipers and world class security.

I work in marketing at Universal which is a theme park next door and I'm kinda terrified, not gonna lie.

Disney recently hired an outside security company and is testing out new security measures, such as having everyone going through metal detectors. I have a feeling that this POS didn't target Disney World is because he noticed these security features and realized he would have been caught.

Assuming he had something under his clothes or on his persons, he could have walked into the park possibly unchecked. There are no bags lines as well at Disney World. I however don't know if he had a bag with him the night that he entered the pulse club. Also Disney owns an outdoor entertainment area in Orlando that contains no security check at all.

He was previously questioned twice by the FBI

He was given access to guns despite these undisclosed reasons why the FBI questioned him

Why didn't they prevent such an act BEFORE if the information was available???

I have sooooo many sources first hand who was there.

Today at work, this is all everyone is discussing. We ALL knew atleast one person who was affected.

I lost an associate. Shane. Very popular local singer here in O.

He sung with Ariana Grande at Disney World recently.

I'm SO messed up behind this all. I'm actually relocating soon. I can not do it. I just can't.

But it definitely has tighter security and many people who are not gay, so I don't know why this would have been a target for him.

He could've easily pulled this off at Disney Springs though. Terrifying to think about.
