I'm guessing it's because she looked more like Jayden's and Sean's mom than she did Britney Spears

The majority of them. The American elderly consume entertainment through daytime television and news shows. Britney's probably the most well-known celebrity from our era since she dominated news talk shows from '99-'09.
For example, my grandma only knows Britney, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus and just found out about Beyonce after Formation at the Super Bowl.
But that's how their demographic works. They don't know anyone without big scandals/controversies, especially ones that get covered by Conservative media.
