BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A single photo of a Bangor teen sitting alone at her own birthday party has quickly gone viral.
Hallee's cousin posted the photo to Facebook on June 7th. She describes her cousin as a beautiful young woman, both inside and out.
"Hallee is an amazing person-a person I am proud to be related to. She is also a person who just happens to have Autism," her cousin wrote.
The photo, which was taken on her cousin's birthday last year, shows the young teen sitting alone. The Facebook post states Hallee was so excited to celebrate her 18th birthday party with her friends by her side. But no one showed up.
Okay, don't take the words out of my mouth and twist them.. I am obviously a supporter and lover of humanity. I thought that people with Down syndrome/autism etc all wanted to be equal, and the people around them all wanted the same thing too? Because this picture shouldn't have gone viral. From the age of 12-19... I had ZERO friends. So I had no birthdays, no one to be around with. I'm trying to wrap my head around why stories like these go viral (and they want to be treated equal) and someone like me (in my past) no one gave a rats ass about, even when I tried to talk to someone about it, which was still hard to do because I had no friends.

So because you were miserable she should be too? You should be wishing her a better time than you had.

this is key, there's been several stories very similar to this one going viral, and I doubt it had something to do with her being autistic, it's mostly because the photo emits so much sadness.
