If 5H aren't the biggest girl group right now... Who is it?
Alright! This will get locked in no time but it is worth the question and even when locked you can think about it. If Fifth Harmony are not the biggest girl group in the world right now... Then who has that title?
Ever since "7/27" came out and the sales were posted, Fifth Harmony's haters have been constantly ironizing the fact that people call them the "biggest girl group in the world right now" and I understand why they would say that as their album sales aren't impressive... But isn't streaming the future? Aren't album sales dead (unless you're Adele, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé or any hip hop male artist)?
"7/27" did have first week of sales under the 100K mark (according to MediaTraffic) but...
1. They have the most viewed video from a girl group with "Worth It" which is expected to hit 900,000,000 views next week;
2. They also happen to have the second most viewed video (over 500,000,000) from a girl group with "Work From Home" which has been the most streamed video on Youtube for over seven weeks;
3. Actually, "Worth It" is the most viewed video from a GROUP (not only female) of all time;
4. "Worth It" and "Work From Home" are GLOBAL smashes;
5. "Work From Home" is the first ever single from a girl group to hit top 5 in the US ever since "Buttons" from the Pussycat Dolls;
6. "Work From Home" peaked at number 1 in POP American Radio;
7. Fifth Harmony are headlining their second world tour with a lot of sold out dates already;
8. They have won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist;
9. "7/27" debuted inside of the top 10 in over 10 countries including number 1 in Spain.
So, leaving behind the album sales category which nowadays does not even account for much, what other girl group can brag about this achievements or be considered as global as Fifth Harmony?

If you're talking sales/records, 5H definitely isn't the biggest at all. Receipts are everywhere for that. If you're talking culturally relevant right now, maybe they stand a chance.
I think they're the biggest in the North America while Little Mix is the biggest in Europe. Neither are big outside of their respective continents so it's about even.
Contrary to belief, streaming is NOT the future. A lot of money is being lost thanks to it, if anything it's a demise.
Anyway all these peaks, radio play etc mean nothing when people aren't willing to actually purchase your album. The girls can get a couple of hit singles but when it comes to people actually checking for their entire body of work, no one is really interested. Album sales DO matter, especially to the label. If you're not selling, you're of no use to them.
Little Mix are bigger. Their newest album has sold over 200k outside of their home country, if 5h can top that I'll eat my words.

I am talking about the overall figure? I fail to see any moderate worldwide hit from any other girlgroup... While on the other hand Fifth Harmony have two global smashes that made them way more relevant than selling some more albums... Can you educate me on that one? I mean on their smashes or relevancy worldwide?
