They are but there's nothing destructive about others embracing them. Defiling the meaning of a sacred practice or reducing an entire culture to a caricature/costume are very different from simply wearing braids or dreads, neither of which have a singular origin or purpose.
The argument regarding whites adopting popularized black hair styles which are 9/10 times for fashion is mainly born from the double standard in which a white person can wear it and its called cool & edgy, and then for a black person its ratchet and ghetto. This definitely needs to be called out, but you don't address double standards by preventing participation in first place. That would be like taking away male freedoms in order to address gender inequality.
