A historic whitewashing of POC in cinema. These movies all based off of REAL life people and cultures with roles given to white people.

A white prince of Persia? Tom Cruise as the last damn samurai? White people playing Egyptians? Johnny D. playing a Native American?

But this one chick from a fictional ass book about magic can't be black in a play not even screened worldwide. Briliiant.

Like, get over it. Rowling was being attacked for allowing this to happen, so she spoke up and said that it was a case of the best actress getting the job. Pure and simple; the color had nothing to with who Hermione is. Trying to make a case of her being white when there's just as equal amount of evidence of her being black is an oxymoron. Plus the only thing that's actual canon is the books. The films may have been relative accurate adaptions of the books but the interpretations of the characters was never set in stone ever (the only one thing that was set was Dean Thomas, Harry's scar / glasses and Ron's hair color).

Good theatre is always (reasonably) colorblind. (Obviously, a white man shouldn't be cast as Othello.) The woman has an Olivier award. Hermoine's race is never explicitly described. If you have a genuine issue with a black person playing a character that she fits the description of, you're racist. Don't argue with it, accept it, and do your best to change it.
