SEA for the BB200 needs to change though. They should use average streams over a whole album. In the current system (total streams), a huge hit with a lot of streams can shoot an album past an album with a lower number of total streams but an equal or higher average streaming number. If average streams are used, it would be much more fair.
No. The Hot100 measures popularity, and streaming is probably the most popular method of consuming music nowadays ( at least in the USA, everybody downloads YouTube mp3s here ).
If anything, they could add a pure sales based chart so y'all can see who sold the most.
Yes, streaming services should be removed from the Hot 100.
I think it should be a sales only chart, because if you're not going to respect the art and pay for it, then it shouldn't count. Plus it would give people an incentive to buy it.
Oh yes so you think they would start buying music because of hot100 charts? NON SENSE.
#Hot100 is a popularity chart and not counting streaming would not reflect it correctly.
Perhaps it should be more weighted towards subscription streaming services than youtube, but streaming is a major part of how music is consumed.
Edit: we had similar thread yesterday - check this post for links showing streaming generating more revenue than digital downloads. http://atrl.net/?p=34536205
Only if someone gave their COINS for said subscriptions.
A free stream on Spotify should be weighed no more than a free stream of an official video on Youtube.
I'm pretty sure those free streams on Spotify pay out more than youtube.
Wasn't there a recent article showing youtube being the worst payer (per stream) of all?
According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, in 2014 YouTube paid out approximately $0.72 per user per year to record companies, while in 2013 Spotify paid out $20 per user.
